The Me in We Project
The Me In We project is a project where we will make a collage-mural based off the San Diego Skyline. Each group has been assigned a community that is apart of San Diego. My group's community is Hillcrest. My fellow group members are Ben, Renée and Lauryn. The essential question is "How does your culture contribute to you as an individual and how does each individual shape the HTHI community?". The project overall was a more negative experience than a positive one. Mainly just because how long it was and how much time we spent together as a class for a month just making collages.

Humor
Everywhere I go
People tell me
Everything I do
People laugh
Most of the time I'm not taken seriously
The noise, the compliments
All come often, maybe too often.
Like a child told not to eat candy
But does it anyway as if every day were halloween
I feel sometimes it’s a pointless trait
But I then realize how many good relationships it caused
Like the smell of pancakes and cookies in the morning,
It’s amazing
Almost like the sight of a unicorn, a surprise
Countless times it has saved me
From trouble, enemies, danger
It has even saved others
My sense of humor

Peace
As I look out my window I see nothing, but silence
I hear the cool breeze as it flows over my humble abode
I feel it as if i were walking on the shore of a beach.
Still nothing but silence as if it were and a “No Mans Land”
As I continue my observations of the outside world,
I start to feel the ground beneath tremble as the planes fly over
Then I suddenly wake up from the sound of my mom’s voice, and this ferocious heat.

Hercules
I am vicious and resilient
I wonder what it feels like to slay a Hydra
I hear the sound of pain and agony as another man falls
I see nothing but blood shed
I want I decide to keep moving
I pretend nothing around me is real
I feel the hilt of a blade bash me in my spine
I touch the area that is in pain
I worry I’m going to die
I understand i will one day fall
I decide to keep moving
I say I can’t be defeated
I dream of one day no longer having to fight
I try to keep it alive like the flame in a dying fire
I hope these trials will end
I will stand tall
I decide to keep moving

Hillcrest
I am from the Hash House, a plate of
hot waffles before my hungry eyes.
From being brave and happy.
I am from the bright sunny festivals on Tuesday,
with exciting parades and dancing all around.
I am from cold night celebrations.
From a decorated shop on every corner
selling clothing and knotted bracelets.
Old charming buildings next to new shiny ones.
I am from the high pitch noise of ambulances passing
by,on their way to our medical buildings.
I am from love and admiration
From abstract art lining every street
And rainbow flags that are always flying
I am from chocolate and pho that melts in your mouth,
And warm colorful days that make you smile.
I am from roaming the streets at night,
looking at the sparkling lights.
From being gone from dusk till dawn
I am from childhood memories and adventure.
I am from fresh fruit in the farmers market
From being proud of who I am
I am from delicious and warm bread, from the
popular bakery down the street.
I am from a place where you can be yourself
Hillcrest, the place where all belong.
